Life of PA
Greetings and welcome to what I like to call ‘Life of PA’. My inspiration for such a name is simply from the film ‘Life of Pi’ and a pathetic attempt at humour. The intention of this blog is to show the nitty gritty elements of working alongside a creative mind.
During my first few weeks working as mum’s personal assistant I have learnt a lot about how complicated even sending an email can be, how to clean an ancient collection of books and archives, and just how many pieces of paper you need to do a simple thing. It is so exciting to not only be learning new things, but to be able to follow in my mother’s witchy little footsteps. She has always been a great inspiration to me, therefore I feel honoured to be able to assist her with creating wonderful stories for people to enjoy.
We had to bite the bullet this week and purchase a proper office-type printer! For years we have battled with ink going dry and paper being shredded by various cats. But at last we have found ourselves a beautiful white box that does exactly what we need it to do. We even got so excited about it all that we were scurrying around to find documents to print, just so we could listen to the brilliant whirring of it. I now know I am deep into the jaws of adulting when I find things like this to be the highlight of my week.
We took a short trip to London! One of our main incentives for going was to see The Reading Room in the British Museum. A fly in our ointment was that to enter The Reading Room, you had to prebook an appointment. This explains the photo of me trying to claw my way through the wall! Nevertheless, it was lovely to see something I have researched and learnt much about in person. The Reading Room’s relevance to The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish will be revealed soon.
We stayed in the beautiful Groucho Club in Soho, which gave us a fantastic mid-point to explore Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and the surrounding areas. Many moons ago, Mum lived in various parts of London. This gave her the knowledge and confidence to stride me around beautiful areas as the sun was setting. We experienced a man free standing on a ladder, juggling knives in just his underwear! All in all, I would say our trip to London was eventful and we are both looking forward to going again.
Now it is back to creating our game plan for the new year and soldiering on with the Christmas advent calendar posts. The new year is looking exciting, productive and thoroughly colour coded.
It was such a fun trip! I mean… we got lots of work done, of course. And that printer is a wonderful thing.
